Lizard Lane

Monday, September 8

10:00-11:00 a.m.

Meet other parents of young children as you take a guided walk along "Lizard Lane," the boardwalk trail leading out to the pier at Flag Ponds.  With a little luck, we will see skinks, fence lizards, and the elusive six-lined racerunner.  Return to the education building and take some time to relax and socialize with other adults while the children play.  If the weather is warm and sunny, we will move the social to the beach.   Sunscreen, a towel, and water bottle are recommended.

Meet at the education building.

Location: Flag Ponds Nature Park

Autumn Around the Swamp

Monday, October 6                       10:00-11:00 a.m.

Meet other families with young children as you take a guided walk through the swamp and out to the meadow.  We will identify many of the plants as we meander and hope to see insects, birds and other small wildlife on our outing.  Collect fallen autumn leaves and late summer flowers to make a small bouquet if you would like.  Return to the picnic pavilion and take some time to relax and socialize with other adults while the children play.  If the weather is inclement, we will go back inside.

Location:  Battle Creek Cypress Swamp

The Quiet Swamp

Monday, November  3

10:00-11:00 a.m.

Join like-minded parents and children for this autumn walk through the cypress swamp.  As the air turns cooler, the swamp residents are getting ready for winter.  This includes the cypress trees, which go "bald" for the season.  We'll go for a relaxing walk and then parents can socialize inside, while children play or nap.

Location: Battle Creek Cypress Swamp
