Join us in June 2015 as we hold our second annual art exhibit, Nature's ARTcade. Last year, more than 500 people visited Flag Ponds Nature Park in Lusby to see the work of 50 artists from across the region exhibition at Flag Ponds Nature Park in Lusby.

Calvert Nature Society, in support of the Calvert County Division of Natural Resources, organizes the exhibition to showcase artwork inspired by the natural world of Southern Maryland. Accompanying the juried exhibition is an exhibition by Calvert County art students.

2014 Prize Winners. First prize went to George Lorio, Dover, Delaware, for his installation "White Leaves." Second place went to Larry Ringgold for his driftwood sculpture, "Buck." Calvert Marine Museum's Tim Scheirer received a third place award for "Sacred Lands" and Kathleen Carlson received an honorable mention for her work, "Nature in a Box - Fragile Flora." 


2014 Student Awards. The exhibit also included work from Southern Maryland student artists. Student awards were presented earlier in the day at an afternoon reception. The student show was coordinated by ARTcade curator Dr. Margaret Dowell and Supervisor of Instruction for Cultural Arts Linda Patton.

Elementary School 

First, Ezra Huckabee -- Shield of Faith Covenant Home School
Second, Madison Frame -- Plum Point Elementary
Third, Kara Mattia -- Dowell Elementary.


Middle School

First, Lucy Paskoff -- Homeschool
Second, Lillian Bridges -- Plum Point Middle School
Third, Emma Huckabee -- Shield of Faith Covenant Home School.


High School

First, Josie Hall -- Huntingtown High School
Second, Amanda Coleman -- Northern High School
Third, Dominique Mitchell -- Patuxent High School

Artist Access Days
at County Nature Parks

   The Division of Natural Resources will offer artists special access to the parks before and after hours so that they may be inspired by the beauty of the parks at sunrise, in different seasons. Registration is required.

Calvert Nature Society is dedicated to the protection and preservation of Calvert County’s natural heritage and the creation of an environmentally literate and aware community. We provide opportunities for appreciation and understanding of our natural world through our outreach initiatives and in support of the mission of the Calvert County Natural Resources Division.  The Society is a 501(c)3 organization.
