For families with children ages 3 to 5.

The word "chuckling" doesn't just mean laughter - it's also a name for a baby groundhog (they're also called woodchucks or whistle pigs). Chucklings are born, blind, toothless, almost hairless and helpless at one to two ounces. They nurse for about three months, after which they leave their dens in search of their own space.

Celebrate the upcoming change of season with these fun groundhog- and shadow-themed activities.

Location: Kings Landing Park

Naturalist:  Rebecca Brown

Advanced Registration is required. Please register by January 29th.

Program Fee:

Free for Society members
$8 per family for nonmembers

Please consider the safety, health, and well-being of all participants in our programs and stay home if the participant(s) are ill. Full refunds will be given for cancellations due to health concerns.

Please read our full policy statement and waiver.

Registration Opening Dates

Programs have staggered registration dates. We advertise programs before registration opens which is why you may see that registration is closed, yet there are spaces available.  See details >

The schedule of events is subject to changed based on the status of the coronavirus response, weather, staffing, and other situations that may arise. If Calvert Nature Society or Calvert County Natural Resources Division cancels a program, a full refund will be issued.
