    It's the beginning of owl nesting season, and owls are especially vocal this time of year.  Join the naturalist on an evening hike through the trails and field edges where we will attempt to call one closer. 

    Due to COVID-19, we have significantly reduced the program maximum.  Please only register for one owl hike so that other families may have an opportunity to attend.

    For children ages 8+ 

    Calling all young witches and wizards! Come learn about the owls that live in both the magic and muggle worlds and discover what makes them so magical. You will also meet the owls that live at our nature center and learn a little bit about how owls are trained by their handlers. Then follow along as we make a snowy owl of our own!

    One week before the program, you will receive a materials list for  participating in the snowy owl craft, as well as instructions on how to join the zoom meeting.

    Join the Naturalist to learn the process of tapping Maple trees to collect sap that can be boiled into delicious syrup. We will have an overview of the process and history of Maple "sugaring", then visit the our local Maple trees to get a first-hand opportunity to learn this simple skill.     The peaceful woods may seem lifeless in winter, but it's not. This program will explore plant, animal, and insect life in the quiet, but not dormant, woods in winter. Dress for an outdoor winter hike at Battle Creek Cypress Swamp.  All ages are welcome for this family event. Please realize the terrain of the hike is not conducive to strollers.

    We will usher in the Spring Equinox with an evening stroll to the beach. We will look for signs of the emerging spring,  enjoy the sunset,  and do a little sky gazing as the stars begin to twinkle. 

    Please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring a flashlight or headlamp.

We will then take a hike to practice our skills and see which critters have been out and about. The hike will be approximately 1 mile and is not stroller-friendly.
