Water Access

The Natural Resources Division provide several locations throughout the county to enjoy the Patuxent River, Chesapeake Bay, ponds and streams for fishing, crabbing, boating and overall experience on the water.

Water Trail Adventures in Calvert County, Maryland

The Calvert County water trail guide is available now at sites throughout the county such as Kings Landing Park, Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, Calvert Marine Museum, Solomons Boat Ramp, North Beach Welcome Center, Chesapeake Beach Town Hall, parks and Recreation main office, and Battle Creek Cypress Swamp Nature Center.

Calvert County residents can call the Calvert County Natural Resources Division at 410-535-5327 if they would like a free copy mailed to them. For out-of county residents, the guide can be purchased ($3 to cover postage) from the DNR Outdoor Store (http://shopdnr.com/watertrails.asp)

Kayak and Canoes and other hand carried boats

  • Kings Landing Park, 3255 Kings Landing Road, Huntingtown (200 ft. walk to Patuxent River, pier or natural shoreline) No fees.
  • Rent a kayak, canoe or stand-up paddle board. Summer weekends at Kings Landing Park by local outfitter SUP2U Rentals
    • 2015 Rental Fees: 2 hours-$25; half day: $50; whole day (9 am - 7 pm) - $100. Prices include taxes.
  • Flag Ponds Nature Park, 1525 Flag Ponds Parkway, Lusby (1/2 mile walk to Chesapeake Bay; natural shoreline, no ramp) Entrance fee charged.
  • Nan's Cove, 8081 Broomes Island Road, Broomes Island (direct access to Patuxent River, floating dock) No fees.
  • Information on the proposed floating dock at Lower Marlboro Wharf

Trailered Boat Ramp

  • Solomons Boat Ramp, 14195 Solomons Island S, Solomons (direct access to Patuxent River, ramp) Ramp fee charged.
    • Kayak and canoes can launch too
  • NOTICE: Solomons Boat Ramp will be closed on or about October 15, 2018 for reconstruction of the ramp until mid-April 2019.
  • While Solomons Boat Ramp is closed for construction here are some alternatives:

Fishing and Crabbing

A valid Maryland fishing or crabbing license is required. Visit the Maryland DNR web site (external site)
