What is letterboxing? Letterboxing is an adventure for many ages and abilities that combines exploration, solving puzzles and clues, and leaving an entry (stamp, drawing, signature) into a book for other to see your success. Letterboxing started in Dartmoor, England in the 1800's, and became famous in the US after a Smithsonian article about Dartmoor in 1998. Letterboxing is similar to geocaching, but without a GPS.

We are introducing some themed letterbox adventures at Battle Creek Cypress Swamp, focused on local animals, local and invasive plants, and the history of this area.

Free for members and non-members.

No registration required, though it is encouraged!

Registration Opening Dates

Programs have staggered registration dates. We advertise programs before registration opens which is why you may see that registration is closed, yet there are spaces available.  See details >

The schedule of events is subject to changed based on the status of the coronavirus response, weather, staffing, and other situations that may arise. If Calvert Nature Society or Calvert County Natural Resources Division cancels a program, a full refund will be issued.
